Extremely economical in everyday use
CLS EVO chain oiler impresses with minimal oil consumption of just 0.6ml/100km.
In addition to the extreme tests, which were important for the development and improvement of the systems, normal everyday operation shows what the great strength of the CLS EVO chain oiler is.
In normal road use, an EVO system only consumes around 0.6ml/100km. This means extremely low oil consumption and correspondingly low contamination.
Here is an F 650 GS after a 300km tour. The soiling of the rim due to spilt oil is minimal.
On the Husqvarna Nuda 900 R, even after 250 kilometres there is almost nothing to be seen on the rim.
Gravel tour
CLS EVO chain oiler impresses with minimal oil consumption of just 0.6ml/100km.
Contrary to the widespread opinion that a chain should be run dry in off-road use, we recommend using a CLS oiler. The following pictures show why.
With a chain lubricated with grease, the dirt is bound and sticks to the chain as an abrasive paste together with the grease. This paste rubs the chain in a mould and causes heavy wear.
An oiled chain, on the other hand, hardly binds any dirt; on the contrary, the fresh oil practically "rinses" the chain clean. Whereby "rinsing" sounds like more than it actually is. In off-road operation, the oil flow is increased by around 3-5 clicks, depending on the road surface, and the result looks like this BMW F 800 GS.
This Triumph motorbike was ridden off-road in Iceland, the pictures speak for themselves. The fine magnetic lava dust covers the motorbike, but not the chain.
Chain after 6 hours of gravel riding: it couldn't be better. The chain is perfectly lubricated and still clean.
Thanks to the extremely precise oil metering of the CLS Speed, there is not even any visible oil contamination on the motorbike.
Experience report with the CLS chain lubrication system
After purchasing the chain lubrication system at the motorbike trade fair in Sinsheim, we had it fitted to our Triumph Tiger motorbike at our dealer, E-Motec in Renningen.
After a few 100 kilometres on normal roads, the time came when it had to show whether it would also work reliably under extreme conditions.
On Iceland's roads, or what the Icelanders labelled as such on their maps, our chain and the entire team, including driver and passenger, were put through their paces.
From water crossings to dust, rubble, mud, the finest lava dust and everything that can be expected off-road, everything was there.
After 3,000 kilometres on these tracks, there is no sign of wear on the chain, sprocket or chain wheel.
Absolute recommendation for long journeys
The lubricant dosage can be reliably adjusted using the rotary knob. The only thing to ensure is that the hose on the sprocket does not clog.
It is actually the case that you forget about the chain and you can rely completely on the system. When travelling 3,000 km, the only thing you really need to ensure is that the CLS system reservoir is full.
After arriving in Germany, there was still oil in the reservoir for at least another 5,000 kilometres. We, Kurt and Michaela, can only recommend the CLS system and will continue to use it in the future on our other trailer.
Extreme use
The CLS 200µ has been in extreme use since 2001 and the CLS Heat since 2003 by a couple from Sonneberg who have been travelling around the world on two KTM LC4s for five years. The positive results of the chain oilers in the KTMs of Ramona Eichhorn and Uwe Kauss surprised even the testers from CLS. The function of the CLS Heat, on the other hand, surprised the two globetrotters.
Ramona Eichhorn:
"The constant lubrication gave my chain a service life of 53,936 km, which borders on a minor miracle in view of crossing the Sahara, Kalahari, Namib and Australian outback deserts. It is also astonishing that the chain was not worn out after almost 54,000 kilometres, but that a few rollers were broken by a stone. Without this incident, the chain would have continued to run for many thousands of kilometres without any problems. After the violent end of the chain, we measured a total elongation of only 5 mm to the new chain."
"The CLS Heat is by far the best accessory I have fitted to my KTM."
Uwe Krauss:
"Many thanks for the rescue!
After the lubrication system had allowed the chain on the KTM to live for almost 54,000 kilometres, the temptation was too great after -15°C in Bolivia. Heated grips were needed. As expected, they work perfectly and saved our fingers on the 5,000 metre high passes in Peru. Ramona is particularly pleased with the CLS Heat, after her thick gloves, along with a few other items, have found a new owner.
Above all, the ease of use of the system is outstanding.
It's good that it's still possible to be successful with innovations in the age of globalisation and large corporations. Keep up the good work."
Endurance test
This report reflects an extract from the test protocols during the development and test rides with the CLS 200µ. The CLS 200µ was tested on various motorbikes and by various riders for over 200,000 kilometres.
70,000km with one chain
The result of the endurance test:
This saved us €1,430.05 over 115,000km in purely economic terms. Quite apart from the work that manual lubrication would have entailed and the cleaning work on the chain and the rim, which was eliminated or made easier.

Article in Ride Magazine:
The British Ride Magazine is one of the few newspapers that has actually tried the CLS 200µ in practice. The article says it all.
Peter Baker's colleagues probably regarded the system as an exaggerated gimmick at first and forced him to try it out. After Peter had tried the system for 1000 miles, he was completely convinced by the CLS 200µ.
