With the correct setting and "normal" weather

weather conditions (occasional rain), the range of the 60 ml tank is approx. 10,000 km. The tank is filled with about 50 ml of oil and after about 8,000 km there is still about 10 ml left.

How long can you ride with a chain until the wear limit is reached?

This depends on a number of factors, such as correct adjustment of the system (sufficient lubricating oil), the individual riding style, the quality of the chain, correct chain tension etc. etc.. Normally you can assume a "service life" of 50,000 km - 100,000 km.

How are the electronics connected to the motorbike / vehicle electrical system, is any intervention necessary?

The 12V connection cable is simply connected to the motorbike battery. No intervention in the on-board electronics is necessary.

How much current flows in idle state and in active state while the engine is running?

Only approx. 230 µA in idle mode and approx. 100 mA in active mode. The power consumption in idle state is far below the self-discharge of a motorbike battery!

How does the system switch itself on?

The electronics constantly monitor the battery voltage. When the engine is running, this changes (alternator, consumers are in operation). This activates the system.

How is the lubricant quantity adjusted?

The lubricant quantity (chain adhesive oil) can be adjusted using a rotary switch (on the CLS Basic) or a button display (on the CLS EVO and EVO Plus). The switch has 8 positions and the display has 12 positions. The left position is OFF, the right position is permanently ON, with 6 or 10 selectable positions in between. The rotary switch can be mounted in the panelling or, for example, in the frame with the aid of a mounting plate. The amount of lubrication can be easily adjusted while riding. It is also important that it is easy to adjust at night or when travelling with luggage!

Can I also connect a non-CLS system to a CLS display?

No, the displays are only designed to operate CLS systems.

Is it necessary to increase the amount of lubrication on longer journeys at very high speeds?

Yes, it is recommended. At very high speeds (continuous speeds, i.e. over 160 km/h for more than 25 minutes at a time), the load on the drivetrain and therefore also on the chain is enormous. In addition, the strong air currents mean that some of the oil does not even "land" on the chain. Adjusting the amount of lubrication is no problem with the aid of the rotary switch or the display.

Where are the oil tank and electronics fitted on the motorbike?

The installation location of the electronics and the oil tank is freely selectable. Usually there is a place in the rear part of the motorbike (rear) or under the side fairing. There are many examples in the picture gallery.

Which oil is used for the CLS EVO Tour/Sport?

An oil specially blended for CLS is used. This high-performance lubricating oil has good adhesive properties, is about 5-6 times more water-resistant than conventional chainsaw oil, has been developed for very high loads on the chain links, does not gum up (so the chain is always clean), is toxicologically harmless (non-toxic) and, last but not least, is much cheaper than using chain sprays.

How much does the oil cost?

The oil can be purchased from us and costs 19 EUR/ 0.5 litres. 0.5 litres is sufficient for up to 80,000 km.
Please do not use BIO oil (particularly biodegradable oil)!
This oil made from organic raw materials (usually rapeseed oil) has extreme temperature properties (viscosity), can attack the sealing rings (O or X) of a chain and thus promote wear. The oil can clump together or become rancid after a long service life and thus block the system.

Can the lubrication system be removed from the motorbike without any problems (e.g. when changing vehicles)?

Yes, the only parts that are permanently attached to the motorbike are the retaining pieces for the oil hose on the rear swing arm. These are attached to the swingarm using the superglue supplied. However, these retaining pieces can be cut off with a sharp knife. New retaining pieces can then be attached to the new motorbike, which are of course available as spare parts.

Do CLS systems have to be approved and registered by the TÜV?

No, the lubrication system does not have to be approved and registered, as it is not a structural modification to the motorbike that affects the riding characteristics, function or safety.

How long is the warranty period?

The warranty period is 60 months for the electronic parts (pump, rotary switch/display and control unit)

Does the tank have to be installed above the pump?

No, the tank only needs to be located above the outlet nozzle, i.e. above the swing arm. Once the system has been bled, the oil will flow even if the tank is located below the pump. However, it is important that both connections of the tank, ventilation and oil line are above the oil level, as the connections are not 100% tight in the long term.

Can I also connect the control unit to the fuse box?

No, that is not possible. The electronics react to the fluctuating voltage of the battery when the engine is running and the same voltage when the engine is not running. If you connect the system to the fuse holder, the system may not work.

Why is the oil not being transported to the inside of my chain?

If the inside of the chain is not getting enough oil, this is almost always due to the incorrect position of the nozzle. The cutting surface of the nozzle must be in contact with the sprocket. The oil should be pulled along with the sprocket as an oil thread and then pressed into the chain by centrifugal force. If there is a gap between the nozzle and the sprocket (even if it is only 1 mm), this will no longer work and some of the oil will be thrown onto the chain by the airstream where the oil will be atomised. It is also important to ensure that the chain cannot touch the nozzle when running onto the sprocket.
It is also important that the nozzle is not far from the point on the sprocket where the hanging chain hits the sprocket.

How much oil should the chain always get? So that the chain always has a black lubricating film, or more so that the rollers shine silver?

The system should be adjusted as described in the instructions on page 31.

Should as much oil as possible be used for enduro riding to flush the dirt from the chain, resulting in a constantly oily rim?

The system has two off-road levels, i.e. positions 9 and 10 on the rotary switch and levels H_ and H= on the display.
In these stages, the oil quantity is greatly increased and the oil keeps the chain clean.

Although the nozzle is in close contact with the sprocket, only the outer O-ring is always shiny and never the inner one. Does so much oil have to drip that it also shines?

The O-rings actually require virtually no lubrication. The lubricator only has the task of lubricating the rollers of the chain, primarily by placing the oil under the roller. The sealing ring facing away from the nozzle always appears drier than the other, which is normal and not a problem. Due to the low coefficient of friction of the oiled chain, the temperature of the chain is not so high and the sealing rings remain intact.
